This year's weed harvest showed to be more than what was expected. It was scheduled to be a 2 day harvest, but ended up turning out to be a bigger project. With the help of Rick Buteyn (Progressive AE) surveying on the second day and noticing there were a lot of weeds still needed to be cut, the cutting was extended further (Total of 4 days). The water level is down considerably from last year, thus being one reason the weeds are showing so much earlier this year.
Below in the picture is what we were dealing with one year ago.

Look for the signs that will be posted around Perch Lake. Please don't swim in the water during the dates that are posted. Thank you.
These images of Bryozoan were taken by Ken & Julie Zinderman after they discovered it in their swim area on the north side of Perch Lake. It may look gross, but it is a sign of a healthy lake and like our jellyfish are only found in a few number of lakes in Michigan.

Lake Condition Update August 22,2020 Hello All, I conducted a survey of Perch Lake yesterday and wanted to give a breakdown of what I observed. The plant growth in the lake looks to be under control. There were a few places where harvesting would be beneficial like the SW channel, a little bit of the eastern shore, and near the horseshoe channel. However, it would only amount to a few acres, which is not enough to have the harvester come out. I would not recommend treatment at this time as the pondweeds are fairly calcified, making them quite resistant to treatment. The lilies in the SW channel have really taken off but we were able to make it through the channel as there is a narrow but clear path. Also, the freshwater jellyfish bloom is one of the largest I’ve seen. Very interesting phenomenon to witness. As always, if anyone has questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
